You are 4 weeks into pregnancy
At this point, you may not experience any special body changes yet, but the embryo is quietly developing in your womb. This happens when there is an ideal combination of the sperm and egg. The embryo consists of epiblast and the hypoblast. Implantation takes place generally 6-7 days after fertilization and took 11-12 days to complete. After implantation, the embryo develops gradually and the development of the brain has also begun, while fertilized eggs continue to split forming the brain and other parts of the nerve tissue.
One fine morning, you are pleasantly delighted by one (or many) pregnancy kits showing double lines = positive result! Congratulations, you are now a mother!
At this stage, although your body is experiencing several changes within, the signs of pregnancy will be little or go completely unnoticed, where most mothers don’t feel exceptionally unusual. Nevertheless, sensitive mothers may feel certain pregnancy reaction, such as fatigue, breast softening, and indigestion and so on. In addition to the physical, the greater change is psychological, when you may be worried about doing something that will hurt your baby before pregnancy. There isn’t a need to be nervous, because under normal circumstances if the fertilized eggs are not healthy, will not be implanted.
Important pointers at this stage
- Calculate the expected date of birth: When you found out about your pregnancy, write down your last menstruation date. You can accurately calculate your expected date of birth using the due date calculator tool at the side.
- High-Risk Pregnancy: If you are over 35 years old, do consult a doctor upon finding out that you are expecting for a comprehensive check-up and to acquire a more professional advice.

- Cold/Fever: Every expecting mother would want to have a healthy pregnancy, but even though you may be careful, you may still catch a cold or fever. Do not worry, if the condition is not very serious, go for home remedies which can achieve comparable results to medications.
When your wife gets pregnant, you are upgraded to becoming a father! Although the baby is still a little dot in your wife's womb, as a father-to-be you shouldn’t sit around and do nothing! Throughout the pregnancy, your wife needs you to share their joy and worry and she needs your support and understanding. Now, if you smoke, please quit smoking and refrain from intimacy (i.e. sex) in the early 3 months of pregnancy.
Build up folic acid
What is folic acid? Folic acid is a type of B vitamin, once known as vitamin M and vitamin BC. As it was originally separated from the spinach leaves, it is now known as folic acid.
Folic acid effects on the foetus: According to a study, taking O.4mg folic acid daily from the beginning of pregnancy can reduce the incidence of neonatal neural tube defects (NTDs) by 70%. Hence, there is a correlation between folic acid and the foetal neural tube defects.
The best time to add folic acid during pregnancy: The best time to take folic acid is 3 months before preparation for pregnancy. If you have already started taking folic acid, very good! If you just got pregnant, don't worry, adhering to the intake of an appropriate amount of folic acid throughout your first trimester helps too!

Therefore, daily intake of 0.4mg folic acid three months before pregnancy to three months after pregnancy is sufficient.
